RULES & VERIFICATION STANDARDS (NV1.0)

These rules define what Nutrition Verified verifies, what it does not, and the requirements for eligibility.

Nutrition Verified exists to confirm that declared food product information is accurate, consistent, and not misleading at the time of verification.

Nutrition Verified verifies information, not health outcomes, opinions, or value judgements.

Scope of Verification

Nutrition Verified verifies required and declared product information as it appears through the Nutrition Verified verification process, including information presented on:

  • Product packaging
  • Official product pages
  • Product descriptions and specifications
  • Product-related factual claims

Information that is not presented as factual product information is not assessed.

What Nutrition Verified Verifies

Information Subject to Verification

Nutrition Verified verifies the accuracy of required and declared product information provided through the Nutrition Verified verification process.

This includes:

  • Ingredient lists
  • Nutrition information (as declared)
  • Product name and description
  • Origin information
  • Processing information
  • Packaging and handling information
  • Any other factual product information required by Nutrition Verified to assess accuracy and consistency

Verification confirms that all information reviewed is accurate, consistent, and not misleading.

Information Required for Verification

Information Producers Must Provide

To be eligible for Nutrition Verified, producers must provide the following information in full:

  • Full ingredient list
    All ingredients clearly and completely disclosed, with no intentionally vague terms.

  • Nutrition Information Panel (as declared)
    In accordance with Australian food standards.

  • Product name and description
    Clear, factual, and not exaggerated or misleading.

  • Origin information
    Including country, region, or farm source where relevant to verify accuracy or claims.

  • Processing information
    Where relevant to verify declared product information.

  • Packaging information
    Where relevant to verify declared product information.

  • All product-related factual information and claims
    Including those made on packaging, product pages, and official marketing materials directly tied to the product.

  • Confirmation of compliance with Nutrition Verified eligibility rules

  • Any additional information reasonably required by Nutrition Verified
    To verify that product information is accurate, consistent, and not misleading.

Eligibility Baseline (Non-Negotiable)

A product is not eligible for Nutrition Verified if it:

1. Fails to provide a full and accurate ingredient list

2. Contains artificial colours, artificial preservatives, or artificial flavour enhancers.

3. Uses intentionally vague ingredient descriptions.

4. Uses exaggerated or absolute statements.

Eligibility is assessed per product, not per brand.

Claims Nutrition Verified Does Not Verify

Excluded Claims

Nutrition Verified does not verify absolute or unprovable statements, including but not limited to:

  • “Chemical-free”
  • “Toxin-free”
  • “100% clean”
  • “Nothing added ever”

Products using these statements must remove them to be eligible.

What Nutrition Verified Does Not Do

Out of Scope

Nutrition Verified does not:

  • Rank or compare foods
  • Declare foods “healthy”, “clean”, or “better”
  • Judge farming methods or inputs
  • Replace regulatory authorities (e.g. FSANZ, ACCC)
  • Monitor all marketing or social media activity
  • Guarantee future compliance or outcomes

Verification Outcome

If a product meets NV 1.0 requirements:

  • A Nutrition Verified product page is published
  • The product may display a Nutrition Verified QR code or NFC tag
  • Verified information is made accessible in one clear location

If a product does not meet requirements, verification may be refused, suspended, or removed.

Ongoing Accuracy & Updates

Producer Responsibilities

Verification reflects information at a point in time.

Producers must notify Nutrition Verified of any changes to:

  • Ingredients
  • Product descriptions
  • Declared product information

Failure to notify may result in suspension or removal of verification.

Nutrition Verified is not required to monitor all future marketing activity.

Use of the Nutrition Verified Mark

Use of Mark

The Nutrition Verified mark:

  • Applies only to approved products
  • Must link directly to the verified product page
  • Must not be altered or used generically

Use of the mark may be withdrawn at any time if information becomes misleading.

Nutrition Verified confirms that declared and required product information is accurate and refuses verification where it is not.
